Reiki: Shelley Carpenter, Physical Therapist, Reiki Master, Registered Yoga Teacher

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a hands-on energy healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation. Treatment typically provides relief from pain and anxiety. It promotes the body's self-healing ability and provides a sense of peace and well-being in mind, body and spirit. Reiki is administered by a gentle "laying on of the hands" while the fully-clothed client relaxes comfortably on a massage table. The client will often become deeply relaxed, and may feel warmth or tingling under the practitioner’s hands and throughout the body. There is research being done on Reiki with promising results. It has been shown to cause significant reduction in depression, lower blood pressure and respiration rate, invoke a profound relaxation response, improve sleep, reduce the need for pain medication, speed recovery time after injury or surgery, in addition to many other benefits. It is widely used in health care settings in conjunction with traditional medical techniques. A one-hour session is $65.
